Our Story

Well, the story started to unfold in late 2008 as our namesake, Claire Hossler was approaching what would have been her 88th birthday. Claire loved living on Coronado Island, just over the bridge from beautiful San Diego, California, but she became very ill between Thanksgiving and Christmas, ultimately passing on December 22nd.

As luck (fate?) would have it, a very cool Spanish style home showed up for sale - listed, as a matter of fact, on Claire's next birthday. Claire's daughter, Beverly Hossler Burroughs, found the house, made an offer and sped to a closing less than three weeks away. Bev, her son Zack and her Husband, Jeff Jakus were all certain that Claire would have loved this elegant 1930's classic.

Bev and Jeff, wanting to provide a living memory of Claire, decided to start a winery - initially in our new Coronado home. To further soldify our branding we researched the name Saint Claire on the internet and found another amazing coincidence (another 'sign') - there actually was a Saint named Clare (slightly different spelling) and she dedicated her life to the church on the same day we closed escrow - albeit 797 years earlier in the year 1212!!

Construction was ramping up, permits were pulled and we moved in just prior to Thanksgiving 2009.

While the winery plans have been put off for some tactical reasons, we have started a business that involves wine, boating and traveling - called Wine on the Water. Please take a look at the WoW! site or better yet our recently launched Sea Dream Yachting site then come join us on one of our Yachting Experiences here on San Diego Bay, in the Caribbean or somewhere romantic in Europe!

Note of Interest:

Our home (Casa Claire) was also the home of the Morrison family in the mid to late 1950's - the same Morrison family that produced the very famous Jim Morrison of 'The Doors' fame. While Jim died at age 27 in 1971, his parents lived in Coronado for many years in the 100 block of H Avenue with retired Admiral Morrison passing late in 2008.
